BELL/ZAIDIE MEMORIAL FOOTBALL MATCH CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

Heroes Day, October 18, 2010, will not only celebrate our local heroes but will also mark the 25th Anniversary of the annual NCB Visa Classic Bell/Zaidie Memorial Football Match, which will be held at Winchester Park, St. George’s College. This annual event has always been a celebration and recognition of the lives of former Jamaican National footballers, Jackie Bell and Dennis Zaidie, both who died tragically while attending the finals of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico City.

The brainchild of Clive “Busy” Campbell, a former Santos player and current Manager of athlete Jermaine Gonzales, he has chosen to partner with Blueprint Consulting for the successful staging and execution of this landmark event. The event will feature two matches; The Masters, Celebrities and Entertainers versus The St. George’s Old Boys Invitational Team, as well as, A Sponsors 11 versus A Media Invitational 11.

"Blueprint is always about giving back to the community, and so my personal love of sports has inspired me to help Mr. Campbell to take this event to higher heights. In tough economic times, sponsors are looking for returns for participating in even Charity events, so we are making the event more modern, trendy, exciting and fun, with the look and feel and the proposed entertainment,” stated Deane Shepherd, Director of Blueprint Consulting when asked about their role in this year’s event.

Shepherd also exclaimed that, “Not only will we have the mouth watering matchups, but we will also have a few sponsors challenges in which the spectators can become involved with, including the NCB Half Line Kick, the Claro Juggling Contest, and the Wray and Nephew Penalty Shootout. Sponsors will have on‐the‐ground giveaways, and our artistes will take the mic to make impromptu performances."

Several local celebrities and entertainers have come on board this year to support the charity event with proceeds going in aid of several basic schools throughout the island. Some of the participants in this year’s staging include: Andrew Price, Nicholas Zaidie, Ali McNab, Darren Virtue, Walter Boyd, Chris Martin, Onandi Lowe, ZJ Bambino, Peter Prendergast, Chris DaCosta, Tony Curtis and Courtney Walsh to name a few.

The event will also honour past Jamaican Footballers and Officials, with this year’s recipients being Ainsley Shaw, Elvin Schloss ‐ former Jamaica/YMCA Footballer; Bruce Lynn – former Jamaica/YMCA Footballer and a Member of the 1958 West Indies Football Team; and Harold Murray.

Sponsors for the 25th Anniversary celebration include NCB Visa Classic, NCB Foundation, Wray & Nephew, Wata, Red Stripe, Claro, Western Sports, Voltaren Aerosol, Sportsmax, Jamaica National Money Transfer, Cuddy’z Sports Bar and Restaurant, Hitz 92 FM, CVM, KLAS Sports Fm 89, Iprint Digital, Garrick Communications and Blueprint Consulting.
